In the year 2005, ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜€ ๐—”๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜€ was designing one of its first buildings, ๐——๐—•๐——๐—ฆ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—บ ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น in Kota. Stone for masonry had been finalized for the facade since it was a readily available resource helping to make the project sustainable. By the time the building went into construction, the availability became a concern due to the closure of certain mines. Suddenly we needed to come out with a quick solution to avoid any delays to the project. This led to the team frantically visiting stone quarries in and around Kota. One such visit led to a stone seller exporting local Dabri stone to Europe at an exorbitant price. This stone would not have met our project budget by any means. A Eureka moment led us back to the miner the very next day to ask him what they were doing with the stone waste after the large chunks were carved out for export. The answer "we give it free to anyone who is willing to transport it at their own cost" sent a huge relief to us. The waste stone was finalized after various round of discussions with the contractors. Samples and mock-ups with indigenous details were created to suite the stone for the building. With this event at Basics, we believe that the best opportunities sometimes happen from the most adverse situations.
